Luciano Spano
Born in Italy in 1959 and now a Mexican citizen, he studied at the National School of Painting, Sculpture, and Engraving (La Esmeralda) of the INBA from 1976 to 1984 where he specialized in engraving. In 1979 he took the Posada Workshop in Aguascalientes. He was also trained at the ENAP (UNAM) from 1981 to 1983, and in 1984 worked as a cultural promoter in the Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil establishing the Gabriel Fernández Ledesma Workshop. From 2000 to 2004, sent by FONCA’s National System of Art Creators, he gave workshops in painting, the human figure, and landscape in Mexico. The next year, he took human figure workshops in the Academy of Fine Arts in Paris.

From 2007 to 2011 he did a series of 11 large-scale paintings of bridges in Paris. His work forms part of the collections of the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes, Museo Carrillo Gil, Museo José Luis Cuevas, the embassies of Mexico in Rome and Paris, and in the Accademia Albertina di Belle Arti of Turin. He has had some 40 solo exhibitions and has been in more than 400 collective exhibitions. He has also been awarded various distinctions, such as the acquisition prize in the 8th National Young Art Encounter (1988), a grant from the Italian government at the Accademia Albertina di Belle Arti in Turin (1997), the support of the National System of Art Creators of the FONCA (2000–2006), and the Art Citè prize in France (2011).

Major critics have written about his work in diverse media and renowned artists such as José Luis Cuevas and Francisco Toledo have promoted his development.
